Bitcoin Halving
What is Bitcoin Halving?
The scheduled cut in half of the reward miners receive for new Bitcoin blocks.
Understanding Bitcoin Halving
Every 210,000 blocks, roughly every four years, the number of new bitcoins paid to miners per block halves. The most recent halving took place in April 2024.
Halvings slow the creation of new coins until the 21 million cap is reached, expected around the year 2140.
In 2026
The next halving will happen at block 1,050,000, when the reward falls from 3.125 to 1.5625 BTC per block. Because it is set by block count rather than the calendar, the date can only be estimated: most projections point to around March–April 2028.
